Hi Sister Theresa!
I’m very happy this category was added! You know, I for the past few years, I have only kept several weeks worth of food and water. I always thought that it probably was not conducive for me to have more than that, partly because we never know what type of disaster we are prepping for.
For example, what if it’s a bomb, or a Tornado, or flood? Those types of disasters can erase all of your supply just like that and there goes all of your time, effort and money. The next reason is because I’m single so a few weeks should be enough for me and my family (sisters and their children) since I am the only “prep minded” one in the family. If you are married with kids, then I can see why you need much more food set aside.
Lastly, I think about what I can transport if I need to leave my home. I always think if things get so bad that we need food for an extended period of time, you’re going to have people that are willing to rob you for it. Also, depending on what’s going on, you may need to leave or be constantly moving so you don’t want to carry too much or have to abandon what you have built up for so long.
Anyways, those are the reasons why I only have about 3-4 weeks worth of portable food. MRE’s, ration bars, rice, beans, some seasonings, dried fruit, water..things like that. I also have a few knives, Smith and Wesson, solar flares/lights and my next purchase is a family size tent.
Oh, and I do have a garden & fig tree in my back yard so that helps. My sisters and I are growing tomatoes, melons, peppers, squash, cucumbers..things like that.
Just my thoughts…smile.
Have a fabulous evening!
